Our Research

The act of removing rubbish from a place you care about is meaningful - but how do we stop it from appearing there in the first place?

When we started working in 2019, there was a deafening silence on the state of recreational trail pollution. Since then, we have worked with partners, universities, researchers and policy makers to undertake pioneering research into the impacts of trash on our trails, and on how we use trail cleaning as a chance to foster (re)connection.

What do we do with our research?

We are world-leaders in research into the impacts of single-use pollution on recreational trails, and the wellbeing benefits of the act of trail cleaning. For us this isn't just about demonstrating the value of our work - through our research we take proactive steps towards ending the single-use pollution crisis, fostering environmental stewardship, and securing a Trash Free Future.

We crunch the data our volunteers collect through the State of Our Trails and Roots to (Re)Connection and transform this into world-leading Reports, taking these to policy makers, other environmental organisations, and communities around the world - enabling them to make lasting change in the places they love.

Do your bit by reporting trash data, telling us about your connection to nature, or supporting our research with a donation.
